Some things get better with age: fine wine, classic movies, TMA’s writing. For obvious reasons, you wouldn’t put any form of technology on that list…with an interestingly hilarious exception: the iPhone. According to SplatF’s analysis of NPD’s smartphone purchase data from this past quarter, the iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS hold the #1 and #2 best-sellers’ slots. These are phones that are over a year and two years old, respectively. Against an onslaught of Android knock-offs.
I’m sure Google’s pending acquisition of Motorola will change all that. The answer to vertically integrating your products’ hardware and software has always been overpaying through acquisition. Just ask HP.
